Patched Rockets jersey for NBA Live 07

Jerseys became editable to patchers when NBA Live 98 utilized a 3D Graphics engine. Common jersey patches update the in-game jerseys with the ones that NBA teams currently use, improving their colors and jersey textures.

Game Engines

NBA Live 98-2000

An NBA Live 98, NBA Live 99, and NBA Live 2000 jersey file includes the numbers, letters, and shoes of in one image. These jersey files are named as xxaway.fsh for away jerseys and xxhome.fsh for home jerseys. xx stands for a team abbreviation. Each file as a different image for each number from 0-9.

NBA Live 2001

An NBA Live 2001 jersey file includes the numbers, letters, and shoes of in one image. NBA Live 2001 jersey files are named as xxaway.fsh for away jerseys and xxhome.fsh for home jerseys. xx stands for a team abbreviation. Each jersey file includes an image that displays all numbers and letters to be used on the jersey. Alternate away jerseys are not featured in NBA Live 2001 and was only available to users when patcher Tony Huml released his Sunday Jersey Alternator patch.

NBA Live 2003

An NBA Live 2003 jersey file contains the main jersey image. The numbers are separated on a another .fsh file. File naming formats for the jerseys remain the same while jersey numbers are named as xxaway_num.fsh with xx being the abbreviation of the team name.
NBA Live 2003 is the first game in the series that allows players to wear throwback jerseys. This game is also the first in the series that features the Select Jersey screen.
NBA Live 2003 jersey files can be viewed through the EA Graphics Editor. Patchers can also add jerseys that aren't part of the original game through DBF editing.

NBA Live 2004

Jersey patching on NBA Live 2004 is almost similar to that of NBA Live 2003.
Jerseys from NBA Live 2003 to 2004 are packed into a .viv file that can be opened through EA Graphics Editor, they are named like the main jersey file (xxaway.viv)

NBA Live 2005

Since NBA Live 2005 featured a new graphics engine, the patching system is also changed. NBA Live 2005 jerseys feature a new system of jersey mapping.
NBA Live 2005 jersey files can be viewed and modified through Arushan's FshX.
In NBA Live 2005, team abbreviation has been extended to four letters. Hence, changing the file naming system to xxxxaway.fsh where xxxx being the first four letters of the team's city name.

NBA Live 06

NBA Live 06 showcased a new lighting scheme on the graphics, jerseys now feature a lighting file called buninormal. This image can be viewed on FshX. The buninormal acts as an image that is reflected when light directs on them. Shiny jerseys are emphasized through this.

NBA Live 07

NBA Live 07 featured a downgrade in jersey patching. By opening the jersey file, there is no buninormal image. The buninormal image (channel) is now merged with the main jersey image. Numbers are now separated on different .fsh files per number (e.g. #0 can be found in xxxxawaynbk0, #1 can be found in xxxxawaynbk1, etc.). There are 101 numbers in total (#0-#00).
NBA Live 2005, 06 and 07 jerseys are packed in a .viv file that is named as the main jersey file (xxxxaway.viv) and can be opened through bigGUI.

Jersey Image Resolution

In NBA Lives 2005 and 07, the jerseys have 256x256 resolution, which makes jerseys look less in detail. However for NBA Live 2005, DANet's Hi-Res Jersey Megaupdate doubles the resolution of the jerseys, thus making it 512x512 (the term for such update is called 2X). For NBA Live 07, there's no such update yet.
